Knokke

Scripsit Dániel in Historiae

Knokke, BeachIt’s beach time! Mid-April, can’t believe. I’m sorry to say, but I start to fancy global warming. No, let’s talk about that again in August. But back to April: We left Brussels for today, you just cannot stay in the city when it’s 27 °C and extremely sunny. Our destination this time was Knokke, the Northern corner of the Belgian coast. And, allegedly, the richest Belgian municipality. Judging from what we have seen, this might well be true. Most of the beach is just like the whole Belgian coast, splattered with ugly, high appartment houses. But to the Northeast, just before the Dutch border, there is a lovely nature sanctuarity, called “Het Zwin”. And, some streets away from the center (and the beach), one can find really impressive villas. Did I mention, it’s (second) home to the rich?

Knokke, Jogging TrackI couldn’t miss this great opportunity to train for next Sunday’s Bonn Marathon (I’m going to try the half-marathon). But running on the sand without sneakers is not so fantastic as I had imagined. Well, it’s definitely a superb experience. And you can cool your feet in the water (I’ll miss that feature next Sunday). But after 11 km (according to Google Earth) it gives you some unpleasant blisters. I just hope, they will be gone in seven days. All together, it took me exactly 80 minutes to run up and down the red dotted yellow line you can see on the map (the othe yellow line is apparently the Belgian-Dutch border).
